What is Emotionally Focused Therapy?
Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) is a form of short-term therapy that aims to restore connections and closeness in relationships. It is a research-validated approach to helping people make sense of their relationship distress and make changes to destructive relationship patterns.
We are innately wired for intimate bonding with others. When relationship distress occurs, these bonds can feel thin, disorganized, unstable, or even absent. As EFCT therapists, Dr. Fagan and Dr. Srsic harness the healing powers of emotion and the need for secure attachment to help distressed relationships become safe and secure connections.
Our focused approach
Our therapeutic approach involves focused, short-term relationship work using the EFCT model. Your therapist will take you on a deep dive into your relationship. We call it an “intensive” because on average, our work together lasts for 12 hours over a few days, accomplishing what typically takes 4 months to achieve in traditional couples counseling. It is our goal for you to develop an understanding of the source of your relationship distress, have increased empathy for yourself and your partner, and develop strategies for repairing your relationship when you feel disconnected from each other. This approach is also helpful for non-distressed couples who want to communicate better and deepen connection.
Our rates
The process begins with a complimentary virtual meeting between both of you and Dr. Srsic or Dr. Fagan for about 20-minutes to discuss goals and ensure a good fit. At the end of the consultation, appointments can be scheduled.
Our first appointment will be with both of you, followed by two individual appointments. These appointments typically last one-hour each.
We typically schedule the remaining 9 hours within a few days to maintain intensity and momentum.
Our rate is $285 for each hour of professional time. Rates are discounted to $275 for payment by check, cash or Zelle.
You will receive an individualized report that summarizes the work you did and the progress you made, for you to keep. It describes the cycle in which you get stuck and gives you specific, concrete ways to strengthen your relationship, avoid the cycle and and get unstuck. The cost of this report is $285.
